Last night we got another 5 inches of powdery snow, and once again the dike alongside my mom's property was transformed into a perfect little sledding hill. I brought the kids over this afternoon while Lena was taking her daily nap, and the conditions were perfect. Not too windy. Not too cold. Just the right amount of snow.
My favorite part was watching Lukas help Zeben to sled. I think he only took a couple of runs himself, and instead spent the vast majority of his time making sure that Zeben was getting up and down the hill okay (which left me free to photograph the event).
The slope of the dike is too steep for Zeben to walk up by himself, even when it's not covered with slippery snow. Luke figured out all on his own how to get Zeb to the top, by crawling behind him and pushing on his boots. He called it "teamwork."
As soon as the sled would stop at the bottom of the hill, Luke would call out, "you want to do the teamwork thing again, Zeb?" And then he'd run down the hill and push Zeben back up and position him on the sled for another run.
I really think Lukas enjoyed helping and watching Zeben sled just as much as he would have enjoyed flying down the hill on his own belly. And Zeben was simply over the moon with all of this attention from his brother. I wouldn't say that it's rare for Luke to act this way with Zeb, but this level of support was definitely unexpected. Lukas could have just as easily decided that Zeben shouldn't be allowed on the sledding hill since he's "too little" and "keeps getting in the way." But instead he made it his mission to make sure that Zeb was having a fabulous time. Which made us all have a fabulous time. And I guess that is what teamwork is all about.
