I suppose it was somewhat predictable. That the youngest in our four-pack of sons, the youngest to sit unassisted, to pull himself up to stand, to climb on top of the toilet, to throw himself head-first down slides would also be the youngest of the four to require a trip to the doctor for stitches. Predictable, maybe. But no less devastating than it would have been otherwise.

I love how you've turned this into something funny and, dare I say it, magical? ;) My brother got hit in the head with a snow shovel (turns out they don't make good catapults...oy) about an inch to the right of Leo's, also requiring stitches, when he was about 4 (I think) and it barely shows now unless you know it's there.
I just wanted to say also that I love your blog! I'm a Smith senior and former rugger and a dyke and a former daycare teacher and your blog is a serious pick-me-up when I'm freaking out about the future. You all are a huge inspiration. :)
If I may say so, Leo looks badass with those stitches. Way to handle it like a champ, Leo!
(Glad to hear he's okay!)
He really is so BEAUTIFUL! But ooooh that gash must have bled. Poor mamas, near and far. Nicely ridden out, family.
Yowza!!! Did you two do okay? When my son got his first set of stitches, I was all tough and fine and dandy.... until the doctors started asking me questions and I started sobbing uncontrollably-lol-. His cut was on his head too,on his brow, near his eye. Very Lucky! You have very beautiful children!!
Impressed by your good attitude about this, Lex. Also gotta say that Leo continues to be an incredible cutie-- forehead stitches and all.
Hi Lex! Love your blog, I used to be a Moderator at Mothering (Sydnee). I too have a blog, dedicated to mostly cooking/crafting. Look forward to reading yours!!

Ooof! Hope it heals well and disappears as he grows.
My 2nd son was bitten in the face by a dog a few years ago. Luckily, as the scars healed, it just looks like he has a dimple in one spot and a deep wrinkle in another spot.
Warning! Unsolicited advice to follow!
I know you are a very outdoorsy family and you probably already know that keeping that scar sunscreened at all times is the best way to keep it from darkening and becoming more noticeable as he gets older. (You can get these really cool sunscreen sticks that look like chapstick, which makes it easy to apply and carry in your pocket.) We must have been told that a million times, so I wanted to pass that info along....just in case you hadn't heard.
oh no... your stories of leo remind me of my son. i hadn't even though of stitches/doctor visits! but i'm sure it's not too far away.. yikes.
(i can't get over what a beautiful baby leo is.)
Uhoh, with two disappearing posts, all signs point to tough times.
I've gleaned plenty of warmth and excitement from the stories you regale us with, the least I can do is return the favor.
My seedlings came up this morning. New life is on the brink. Hang in.
Sending good thoughts of strength and calm to you and yours.
